What is Reiki?
REIKI - The word Reiki (pronounced 'Ray - Key')
Rei means Universal
Ki means Life force
“KI” is the vital life force energy which flows through all of creation and the universe.
Reiki is a highly vibrational, spiritually guided life force energy which is very healing in nature.
Reiki is a special kind of life force that can be channeled by someone who has been attuned to it by a “Reiki Master”.
As a certified practitioner, I am a guide to channel that life force energy wherever your body needs it the most. It is a special way of directing this highly vibrational energy to restore balance, harmony, and healing into our lives, the lives of others, and our planet.
History of Reiki
The hands on healing system known today as “Reiki” was documented in Sanskrit, an ancient language of India. The Reiki system of healing had been lost for many centuries and was ‘rediscovered’ by a Japanese doctor, Dr. Mikao Usui, in the late 1800’s.
Dr. Usui was Buddhist monk in Kyoto, Japan who followed a 28-year quest to rediscover how the Buddha had healed through divine love. For his quest, he studied Sanskrit and other ancient languages, learned the spirituality and healing system of the East, and become a great healer himself.
Since 1980, several Reiki traditions have formed, such as Johrei Reiki (which I traditionally practice), Kurana Reiki, Reiki Plus, etc. All traditions are rooted in Usui system of Natural Healing.
JOHREI Or White Light Reiki
- Johrei teaches 35-40 hands positions during the first degree of training rather than the 12-hand positions of the traditional Usui system.
- It also teaches several diagnostic techniques and a technique called “Beaming”.
Reiki Principles/Energy Centers
The basic principle of Reiki is how energy - life force - is flowing through your body, through our major centers.
The body’s main seven centers are called Chakras. “Chakra” comes from Sanskrit word for ‘wheel’ or ‘disk’, meaning ‘circle of movement’. Each of us have seven major Chakras. They are arranged vertically along the spine, starting at the base of the spine and ending at the top of the head.
The seven Chakras correspond to psychological, emotional, and spiritual states. They also include the five senses, five elements, light colors and sand. Each Chakra has a purpose, a specific function. One of the major functions of the Chakras is to act as a funnel for the universal life force.
Reiki, a very highly vibrational energy, is a deeply healing energy on all levels --- mind, body, heart, and spirit. It affects our spiritual well being, our growth in psychological freedom, and our physical health.
Reiki is often referred to as “Unconditional Love”.
